Melani Matavao

Premier 1’s – New recruit Melani Matavao selected for national honours

Harbour’s new recruit half-back Melani Matavao has been selected in the Manu Samoa team for the 2018 Pacific nations cup.
Harbour has always been a breading place for international talent, and comes with no surprise that we have another!

Half-back Melani Matavao who arrived at the club 3 weeks ago has now been selected for national honours to represent Manu Samoa.
Although he has already represented Samoa last year, playing at Twickenham and Murryfield he is looking forward to playing on home soil.

The softly spoken half-back said he has really enjoyed his time so far in the hawks and is really looking forward to the challenge of playing for Samoa. Melani has been training with the Otago ITM cup squad and is pushing for a contract. His performances so far as a hawk have been very impressive, notably coming up with 6 turn overs against Dunedin in his debut and setting up Chucky Koroi for a try against Kaikorai.

Melani is one of many internationals the hawks have created over the years and will join the list of names on the board at Port with the likes of Wisake Naholo – All Black, Hale T-Pole – Tonga , Seilala Mapusua – Samoa  and Naulia Dawai – Fiji

The Hawks are set to play Zingarei this weekend which will be Melani’s last game before he heads off to Samoa and won’t be return until round 14 or 15.

Catch Melani playing for Samoa against Fiji live on Sky Sports on the 9th of June from 3.30pm.

In other news Dean 7ft Williams has headed back to Auckland after failing to gain an Otago contract, captain Charles Elton will be playing his last game for the hawks this weekend before he heads off to Europe for 3 weeks and will be back for the clash against Tairei. A timely return and welcome back will be in order for Naulia Dawai who has signed with Otago and will be returning to the hawks hopefully in the next two weeks.

The Hawks are taking on Zingarei this weekend which is a huge game for the boys after losing in round 1.

Kick off 3pm at Montecillo park
